Basement Epoxy Flooring in Chicago
Moisture-aware basement floors that stay warm, bright and easy to clean. Solid color, flake or metallic epoxy over a slab we test before we quote.
Basements need a different approach
A basement slab sits against the soil, and in the Chicago area that soil carries water for much of the year. Moisture vapor pushes up through the concrete, and a coating that is not built for it can blister or peel within a season. That is why every basement project starts with a moisture test, not a color chart.
We coat basements across Chicago, Elmhurst, Lombard, Naperville and Downers Grove, from bare utility rooms to finished family rooms, home gyms, playrooms and bars.
Our basement floor process
Inspection and moisture testing
We check for active leaks, efflorescence, cracks and old coatings, then test moisture vapor emission. If readings run high, we specify a moisture-tolerant primer. If the basement has an active water problem, we will tell you to fix that first.
Grinding and repair
Diamond grinding opens the slab and removes paint, adhesive and sealer. Cracks are routed and filled so they do not reappear through the finish.
Choose your finish
- Solid color epoxy for laundry rooms, storage and workshops.
- Flake epoxy for playrooms, mudrooms and gyms where texture and hidden dirt help.
- Metallic epoxy for finished living spaces and bars. See our metallic epoxy page.
- Stained and sealed concrete for a warm, natural look at a lower price.
Why a basement epoxy floor works
Carpet traps moisture and odor. Laminate and vinyl plank can swell or lift when a slab gets damp. A bonded epoxy system becomes part of the concrete, does not rot, and cleans up after a spill or a sump backup with a mop. It also reflects light, which makes a dark basement feel bigger.
Basements get little sunlight, so standard epoxy holds its color well down here. Popular basement looks include light flake blends that brighten the room and metallic epoxy for finished spaces. Browse options on our epoxy floor color chart. If carpet glue or old tile mastic is still on the slab, we remove it with concrete grinding first.
Basement flooring cost
Solid color and flake epoxy run about $4.50 to $9 per square foot installed, and metallic runs $9 to $14. Moisture mitigation primers, crack repair and removal of old coverings add to the total. Use the cost calculator for a range, then book a free moisture test.
